Chamber Statements on Tax Proposals, LB709

.

The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce releases the following statements on tax proposals and LB709, which were announced and introduced this week during the Nebraska Legislature's 2023 session at the Unicameral:

Statement on tax proposals:
Nebraska has made great strides improving the competitive position of our state tax system in recent years. The Lincoln Chamber has been proud to be involved and supportive of these successful efforts.  Now, with Governor Jim Pillen’s leadership and the continued strong leadership of legislative leaders, the Chamber sees a great opportunity again for improving our competitive position.

Nebraska is in an envious position with our strong economy and fiscal position, which affords us the ability accelerate needed tax relief for business and individuals across the state. We look forward to working with Governor Pillen and state senators to continue delivering tax relief for Nebraskans.

Statement on LB709:
A new convention center in downtown Lincoln would be a huge win for our city and state. We are pleased to see this bill submitted and thank Senator Anna Wishart and the entire Lincoln/Lancaster County delegation for their leadership on this important growth project that will significantly impact local and regional tourism.

The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Visit Lincoln have convened collaboration roundtables with civic and business leaders over the past several weeks, and the convention center was identified as a clear community consensus project. We are eager to be part of the public/private partnership that will make a downtown convention center a reality for Lincoln.
