Re-Flag LNK

.

Traditionally, flags can tell the history and story of a country, region, state or city. They make those areas distinguishable and help promote its identity.

Lincoln has had its own flag for around 90 years. Did you know that the Lincoln Chamber held a flag design competition, which culminated with the current design adopted in 1932?

Along with the American Marketing Association – Lincoln Chapter, Lincoln Young Professionals Group has announced a citywide contest to redesign Lincoln’s flag, to represent the current characteristics of Lincoln more accurately.

Submissions will be accepted on the AMA Lincoln website beginning July 1, continuing through August 1 and is open to all Nebraska residents, one submission per person.

“The new flag design will capture the unique identity of Lincoln, branding our community as a great place to live, work and play,” says Kayla Meyer, Lincoln YPG Coordinator. “The new design will be an important tool that we can use to effectively represent who we are as a city in our ongoing efforts to attract and retain talent.”

After August 1, the committee will narrow down the submissions to three final designs which will be released for public feedback. A cash prize will also be awarded to the designers of the final three flag designs. The committee will then propose one final design to the city for consideration.

If you or your organization would like to be involved in the flag redesign project, please contact Kayla Meyer in our office. For more information, you can also visit the Lincoln YPG website at lincolnypg.com.

We are excited to see what creative designs are out there, waiting to be discovered and ultimately become a part of our community’s bright and exciting future.
